Metal Health: From Seabee to Sculptor

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but an incredible work of art can leave you speechless. That’s how we felt when we stumbled across the amazing work of Steve Kost, 47. After admiring his unique scrap-metal sculptures, and listening to his band’s music, we decided that we had to hear the story of the man behind this talent. The Power of Art in the Veteran Community

In late September we held our 4th Chicago Veterans Art Initiative, with 16 participating veteran artists showcasing 40 total unique pieces. While artists were there as early as 10:30am to set up, doors officially opened at 3pm and over 180 attendees came throughout the evening. READ MORE >

Join us as we recognize Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) Awareness Month with a series of art demonstrations and conversations about using the arts to manage PTS and Military Sexual Trauma (MST). Held in collaboration with Uniting US, a veteran-focused nonprofit arts organization, this six-session series will feature a wide range of artistic disciplines, including painting, fiber arts, woodworking, metalcraft, writing, music, comedy and more. Each session will include a 30-minute artist *talk, allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of the effects and management of PTS and MST. The presentations will be live at the Library of Congress Thomas Jefferson Building.

Each session is free and open to the public; however, onsite attendance requires advance registration. Read this blog post for the daily schedule, then click the link below each session you plan to attend in-person.
